I have been working as a freelance instrumental teacher since 1997. Over 100 pupils have taken ABRSM exams taught by myself and all have passed. Whilst I have also spent over 10 years working in schools across the county, lessons can now only be taught through me privately.
I enjoy studying music and instruments and have gained various qualifications in doing so, from history to technology. I play a variety of instruments from the flute family; I play concert flute, alto flute, piccolo and fife. I also enjoy playing and teaching the B♭ clarinet and alto saxophone.
I have to date gained the Diploma in Flute Principals of Instrumental Teaching, also the Certificate of Teaching, both through the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music. I have also gained a Diploma in Music through the Open University and a BA (Hons) Music with Humanities, also through the Open University. I have attended many conferences and workshops through the years keeping up to date with any changes in teaching and students exam entries. I have also attended various first aid courses and child protection awareness programs. I have numerous CRB's and have been a member of the GTC prior to its closure. I am also a member of the Musicians Union which provides public liability cover.
Lessons are taught initially using all techniques and can vary between students as lessons are tailored to suit your learning style. These are known as Kinesthetic, Aural and Visual. Some will learn by just having a go whilst other students learn first by hearing. Some prefer to learn visually and find reading music easy. Therefore you can be assured a lesson to suit either yourself or your child guaranteed. Just as your lesson is tailored so is music; not everyone will have the same taste in music and whilst a wide range needs to be explored, finer technique will be on music to suit.
I do not consider myself to be a performer, although in 2009 I practised hard and entered the Cheltenham Festival of Performing Arts. The festival is an annual event that many of my students have entered, and have been awarded medals and trophy's for their hard work. In 2009 it was my turn to bring home a 1st place Trophy for my recital.
